Individual Therapy
Do you want to feel more present, connected, and grounded in your own self-identity and in your relationships with others? Perhaps you know something isn’t quite right, but just don’t know how to get to the heart of what’s wrong. You might be feeling anxious, depressed, or disassociated from life. Do you push people away, react in ways you regret later, feel like your emotions are out of control, but don’t understand why? Perhaps you’ve tried lot of remedies, but keep finding yourself in the same place, feeling the same way. Stuck.
Therapy can help you improve awareness of patterns that cause you difficulty in relationships, and heal the root causes of those patterns. Learn how to manage your own emotions in a compassionate way, while cultivating a deeper sense of empathy for yourself and others. Find support in areas of life where you feel stuck. This deeper self-knowledge promotes healing, improves self-esteem, and facilitates personal development so you can have greater peace, an improved sense of well-being, and more authentic, fulfilling relationships. I’m honored to walk this journey with my clients, and to watch the transformative change that takes place through therapy.
Couples Counseling
As a couple evolves, differences or lack of effective connection and communication may lead to resentment, hostility, and fighting. You may find yourselves thinking that love feels like a struggle or a chore. Perhaps you recognize that you and your partner engage in negative reactive cycles that leave you frustrated, hurt, and unfulfilled, but you can’t seem to fix it.
It's true that committed relationships require regular care to prevent the build-up of unhealthy patterns and unresolved issues. Love isn’t just a feeling; it’s a choice we make every single day. My approach to couples therapy is solution-focused, relational, and honest. It gives you the chance to see significant change right away.
Couples therapy can help you:
-
Stop having the same fight over and over again
-
Reconnect and discover how to be vulnerable with each other
-
Gain skills to better understand and empathize with your partner’s emotions
-
Finally resolve old issues that keep coming up
-
Create a stronger bond
-
Improve sex and intimacy
-
Repair fall-out related to emotional distance, communication breakdown, infidelity, jealousy, loss of trust, addiction, or disputes around parenting, finances or extended family
Whether your relationship just needs some “preventive maintenance” or you’re at a breaking point where you’re considering separation or divorce, therapy can help you sort through important issues and come out on the other side in a happier, stronger, healthier place. For couples who don't live near Coeur d'Alene or whose schedules make weekly or bi-weekly sessions challenging, I also offer weekend "intensives" every other month, which includes four 2-hour sessions over a 2-3 day period in order to cover a lot of ground in a short period of time.
Working with couples is my passion! If you’re reading this, consider taking that first step and scheduling a free, 15-minute consultation with me to find out if therapy might be helpful for you and your relationship.
Pre-Marital Counseling
Most people invest in a wedding venue, a caterer, a photographer, a florist, a dress, and the RINGS for their wedding, but don’t consider the value of investing in a therapist prior to tying the knot. It may very well be the best wedding gift someone gives you (or you give yourselves)! Too many couples assume it’ll be easy to figure things out on their own once they’re married, then find themselves dismayed at how challenging their relationship feels after the honeymoon is over.
The good news is that many of the common problems in marriage are preventable, simply by learning some basic tools and strategies for helping your marriage thrive from the beginning. Within the safety and security of the therapy room, you and your mate can identify and resolve potential areas of concern (like money & debt, religion & faith, sex & intimacy, kids & parenting, holidays & traditions, extended family & cultures, and careers & roles) before they become bigger issues.
Directed premarital therapy with me involves assessments, education, and guidance to prepare you for a lasting and happy marriage. Of course, we’ll also deal with any other hiccups or bigger challenges you may find yourselves facing as well, as you learn to prioritize and nurture your relationship so you can have the marriage you’ve always wanted.
Parenting Coaching
Parenting can be really hard! And you know what? Being a kid can be pretty challenging, too. I offer tools, guidance, knowledge and emotional support without judgment for parents to help them more effectively interact with their kids as they seek to raise them to be the best version of themselves. I’ll often bring kids into the mix as well, either in individual sessions or together with parent(s), in order to facilitate more effective communication and understanding.
Telehealth
Telehealth is also known as teletherapy, online therapy, remote therapy, or e-therapy. It’s just like in-person counseling, except it’s conducted through video sessions online from your phone, computer, or other device. The technology I use is fully HIPAA-compliant and confidential. Therapy through telehealth offers accessibility, convenience and privacy for those living in rural or remote communities, who have health-issues or are homebound, making in-person sessions difficult. It’s also convenient for those who have busy schedules and no time to commute, or who travel frequently for work. Some people just feel more comfortable meeting online, and that’s fine, too. With me, you can choose in-person sessions, telehealth sessions, or a combination, depending on what works best for you.

Relationship Challenges & Family Conflict
Do you find that you continue to have problems in relationships, despite your best efforts? Managing relationships successfully can be tricky, but therapy can help you explore what’s really going on in your current relationships, engage in self-reflection to improve awareness, and develop skills and strategies for improving relationships in your life.
Grief & Loss
Everyone experiences loss at some point. It may be losing an important relationship, a job, a cherished pet, a loved one, or something else of importance. You may find yourself feeling unable to cope, overcome with sadness or fear, or turning to destructive behaviors in an effort to avoid or deal with overwhelming and challenging emotions. We are not wired to grieve alone, and you are not alone. Therapy provides support to help you navigate the grieving process.
Anxiety
If you’re experiencing excessive worry, racing thoughts, irrational fears, sleep disturbance, irritability, fatigue, or difficulty concentrating, then anxiety may be significantly disrupting your life. Therapy can help you learn how to better manage anxiety and decrease unwanted symptoms.
Depression
Depression can cause intense sadness, isolation, sleep disturbance, changes in appetite, low energy, pessimistic thinking, hopelessness, and agitation, among other negative symptoms. For some, even getting out of bed is challenging. For others, they are functional but still feel "foggy," "cloudy," or "joyless." The good news is there are evidence-based strategies for managing depression and decreasing unwanted symptoms. Therapy can help.
Trauma
Trauma comes in many forms, and some people don’t even realize how much childhood trauma or even a single traumatic event may affect everyday functioning. Trauma may result in severe emotional distress, physical reactions, upsetting dreams, nightmares, flashbacks, or dissociation (feeling numb or disconnected). Therapy can help you to process trauma in a healthy way so it doesn’t continue to negatively affect your life.
Life Transitions
Transitions like going to college, entering the workforce, becoming an adult, starting or ending a relationship, relocating, employment changes, getting married, having children, empty nesthood, divorce, retirement and many other life transitions all bring challenges that can upset life’s balance and cause you to feel unstable. Therapy can help you navigate life transitions with more confidence and peace of mind.
Stress Management
Disappointment, unmet expectations, and overwhelming responsibilities are just some of the causes of stress that can make day to day functioning difficult. Therapy can help you develop healthy and effective coping strategies to better manage stress in your life.
Divorce
Those who have gone through divorce often report that it’s one of the greatest challenges of their life, as it can be emotionally, physically and financially demanding. There may be feelings of guilt, sadness, fear, anxiety, and depression as you grieve the loss of an important relationship and deal with the accompanying fall-out for yourself and your family. At the same time, divorce brings with it an opportunity for personal growth and development, and therapy can help you come out on the other side of divorce as a healthier person with an improved sense of well-being and happiness.
Parenting
Parenting can be really hard! Therapy can help arm you with tools, guidance, knowledge and emotional support without judgment so you can effectively interact with your kids and seek to raise them to be the best version of themselves.
Work & Career
Is your work life not measuring up to what you'd hoped it would be? Are you struggling to figure out what you're passionate about, what your "calling" is, and what you'd like to spend your days doing that would bring you more satisfaction and meet your financial goals? Or maybe you like your job itself, but find work relationships challenging. Whatever the case may be, therapy can help you sort it out.
